What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Lissian, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a D-shaped grass-covered area on the south bank of the River Lung, measuring 52.9 metres east-west and 38 metres north-south. An earthen bank, central fosse, outer bank and outer fosse define the structure, though the river truncates the northern edge and no visible entrance remains. The outer fosse is re-used as a drain along the southwest to northwest section.
On the S bank of a W-E section of the River Lung. D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 52.9m E-W; 38m N-S) defined by an earthen bank with some bushes (Wth 3-3.8m; int. H 0.2-0.4m; ext. H 0.7-1.3m) separated by a fosse (Wth of top 6.2-6.5m; Wth of base 3.2-5m; D 0.5-0.9m) from an outer bank (Wth 1.2m at S to 3.2-3.5m generally; ext. H 0.5-0.7m) and outer fosse (Wth of top 2-3.9m; Wth of base 1.1-2.3m; D 0.2-0.3m). All features survive NE-S-NW and all are truncated at N by the W-E River Lung. There is no visible entrance, and the outer fosse is re-used as a drain SW-NW.
