Embanked enclosure

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Grange (roscommon By., Aughrim East Ed), County Roscommon, Ireland. It appears on the 1837 Ordnance Survey map as a thirty-five metre embanked circle on a low drumlin crest. The earthwork has vanished from ground level in pasture, though two other raths remain visible within sixty metres.
Marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as an embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m), and situated on the crest of a low NE-SW drumlin. It is not visible at ground level in pasture. Rath (RO011-108001-) is c. 50m to the SW, and rath (RO011-109----), which it may be a mistaken location for, is c. 60m to the NE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
