What is recorded here

Marked similarly as an 'Abbey' on the 1837 and 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated at the bottom of the E-facing slope of a drumlin. Described as the foundations of an E-W building within a rectangular area (RO011-099002-), perhaps a graveyard, defined by the remains of a wall (Gannon 1972). These features are no longer visible, but an oval grass-covered enclosure (RO011-099003-) (dims 37m plus E-W; 32m N-S) defined by a slight scarp (H 0.2-1.2m) is traceable NW-E-SW, but its W and E sides are impinged on by farm buildings. Human burials have been found at the site. Rath (RO011-100----) is c. 120m to the NE and rath (RO011-098----) is c. 150m to the W. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
