What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Grallagh (frenchpark By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a steep north-facing slope as a circular grass-covered area measuring forty-two point three metres north-south and thirty-nine metres east-west. An overgrown earthen bank defines the perimeter, though it reduces to a scarp on the north-east and south-west and leaves only a re-cut drain on the south-west. A probable modern entrance appears at the south-east beside a small clearance cairn inside the bank.
On a steep N-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 42.3m N-S; 39m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at W: Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.4m; at E: Wth 5.2m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.4m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 1.1m) N-NE and SW-W, and a fosse which only survives as a re-cut drain (Wth of base 3m; D 0.6m) SW-WNW. An entrance (Wth 2m) at SE is probably modern or modernized, and there is a clearance cairn (RO014-052002-) (dims 7m x 5m; H 0.9m) inside the bank at SE. The possible ringfort (RO014-055----) is c. 200m to the S.
