Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Gortaganny (athlone North By.),roverkilly, County Roscommon, Ireland. It appears only on the 1837 Ordnance Survey six-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure about sixty-five metres across on a low north-south rise. The visible D-shaped grass area measures fifty-five by twenty-three metres and holds an earth and stone bank that thins to a scarp near a field wall backing the Roverkilly boundary. Rath RO044-029 lies one hundred and seventy metres to the northeast.
Depicted only on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 65m), and situated on the crest of a low N-S rise on a SW-facing slope. D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 55m NNW-SSE; 23m ENE-WSW) defined by an earth and stone bank (at W: Wth 3m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.7m) S-NW reduced to a scarp NW-N and backing onto a NNW-SSE field wall and townland boundary with Roverkilly at E, but it is not visible E of this feature. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance. Rath (RO044-029----) is c. 170m to the NE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
