Embanked enclosure

Marked faintly as a subrectangular embanked or moated enclosure (ext. dims. c. 55m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE) bordered by a NE-SW road at SE on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. It is located on a little S-N spur at the N foothills of Camross Hill, with a small NW-SE stream c. 70m to the SE. This is a rectangular area (dims. 23m NE-SW; 21m NW-SE) planted with coniferous trees and with slightly raised corners defined by the remains of moats (Wth 2-5m; D 0.7m) on the NW and NE sides which were filled in within living memory, but the moat (Wth of top 5m; Wth of base 3.3m; int. D 0.9m; ext. D 1.4m) with an outer field bank (Wth 4.5m; H 1.8m) survives at SW.
