Embanked enclosure

Earthwork

What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is an earthwork in Commeen (roscommon By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. The Ordnance Survey mapped a rectangular embanked enclosure in 1837, measuring sixty metres east-west and forty metres north-south on the west-facing slope of a low drumlin ridge. Reclaimed pasture has hidden the earthwork at ground level, leaving Rath immediately to the south-west as the visible neighbour.
Marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a rectangular embanked enclosure (ext. dims 60m E-W; c. 40m N-S), and situated on the W-facing slope of a low E-W drumlin ridge. It is not visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture. Rath (RO017-160----) is immediately to the SW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
