What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrowncloghan, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a slight rise on a gentle east-facing slope and measures about fifty-five metres across. An eroded earthen bank, still six metres wide at its best, circles the grass-covered centre while field walls now cross the southern and western edges. No original entrance remains visible.

On a slight rise of a gentle E-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 55.5m NE-SW; 53m NW-SE) defined by an eroded earthen bank which is best preserved S-NNW (Wth c. 6m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.4m) but reduced to a slight scarp E-S, and with slight traces of an outer fosse NNW-E. There is no identifiable original entrance. The perimeter is overlain by a WNW-ESE field wall at S and by a NNE-SSW field wall at W. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
