Embanked enclosure

Marked as a rectangular embanked or moated enclosure (ext. dims. c. 60m WNW-ESE; c. 50m NNE-SSW) on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. It is described as a flat platform defined by earthen banks (Wth 1.5m; H 1.5m) with external dry moats (Wth 4.5m; D 2m) and outer banks (H 1m) (Barry 1977, 217, WX 31). It is not visible now at ground level in a harvested cereal crop, but it is visible as a cropmark on an OSI series of aerial photographs (2005).
