What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or ringfort in Barristown, County Waterford, Ireland. The 1999 County Waterford inventory recorded it as a D-shaped embanked enclosure, about 40 metres from northwest to southeast and 35 metres from northeast to southwest, truncated at the northeast by a northwest-southeast field bank on the 1840 Ordnance Survey six-inch map. The same inventory placed it in pasture at the crest of a low west-facing slope and recorded that it was not visible at ground level during that account.
Marked as a D-shaped embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 40m NW-SE; c. 35m NE-SW) truncated at NE by a NW-SE field bank on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Situated in pasture at the crest of a low W-facing slope, it is not visible at ground level.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
