Embanked enclosure

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Barnacullen, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a low-lying level landscape as a circular area nearly forty metres across, bounded by an earthen bank and an outer fosse to the south-southwest. The site has vanished from ground level because reclaimed pasture now covers the earthworks.
On a low-lying level landscape. Described as a circular area (diam. 39.5m N-S; 38.5m E-W) defined by an earthen bank, with an outer fosse S-SW (Gannon 1972). It is not visible now at ground level in reclaimed pasture. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
