Embanked enclosure

Marked as a rectangular embanked or moated enclosure (ext. dims. c. 60m E-W; c. 50m N-S) only on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated in the valley of the S-N Aughnacrew River with the stream immediately to the E. Described as having had a wide moat and right angled corners (Barry 1977, 213, WX 7), it was removed c. 1975. It is visible as a rectangular grass-covered area (dims. 36m N-S; 26m E-W) defined by the slight depression of a moat (Wth 5-8m) on each side except the E where the stream provides the perimeter.
