Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballinlig (athlone North By.,kilteevan Ed), County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the crest of a south-south-east facing slope at the south-east end of a north-west to south-east ridge. A circular grass-covered area measures about 50m across and is bounded by a scrub-covered earthen bank, an outer fosse and an outer field bank. A modern entrance appears at the west, while an abandoned north-south lane cuts through the monument.
At the crest of the SSE-facing slope of the SE end of a NW-SE ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 50m WNW-ESE) defined by a scrub-covered earthen bank (Wth 4-6.2m; int. H 1.3-1.35m; ext. H 1.2-1.75m), with an outer fosse (at WNW: Wth of top 5.5m; Wth of base 1.8m; ext. D 1.7m) and outer field bank (at WNW: Wth 3.3m; ext. H 0.7m) S-NW. There is a modern entrance at W, and the monument is bisected by an abandoned N-S lane. Rath (RO042-041----) is c. 110m to the E. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
