Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballagh (athlone North By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupied the south-facing shoulder of a west-east spur as a circular area measuring forty-one point five metres east-west and forty metres north-south. An earthen bank, outer fosse and outer bank defined the boundary, while a stone-lined entrance and causeway marked the eastern approach. Two other raths stood within one hundred and fifty metres to the north and east-northeast.

On the S-facing shoulder of a W-E spur. Described as a circular area (diam. 41.5m E-W; 40m N-S) defined by an earthen bank, outer fosse and outer bank. There was a stone-lined entrance (Wth 2.8m) and causeway at E (Gannon 1972). It is not visible now at ground level in pasture, although a field bank SE-W-NE might incorporate some of the outer bank. Rath (RO045-040----) is c. 110m to the N and rath (RO045-042----) is c. 150m to the ENE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
