What is recorded here
Edward Arthur Thompson was born in 1914 at a Waterford address now lost to memory, the first child of a Presbyterian civil servant and Scottish estate manager to leave that rigid household for university. He later rejected their Sabbath bans and puritanical diet, yet kept a lifelong gratitude toward the parents who shaped him. That contradiction may have driven his whole life: a man who turned away from inherited certainty but never stopped taking it seriously.
