Edith Anne Stoney was born at 40 Wellington Road in Ballsbridge in 1869, the daughter of George Johnstone Stoney, who named the electron. She grew up inside a house full of bridges, ports, mathematics and men who measured the world before others could imagine it. Her mind moved like water through stone, shaping physics into a language women could finally speak.
