Edinburgh Castle, including the Tattoo Store and Coal Yard, was built and held by the Royal Scottish military and civic authorities from the 16th century onwards. It is important as a key component of Edinburgh Castle's defences and as a site reflecting the military and logistical history of one of Scotland's most significant fortified positions.
