Built in the 16th century as part of Edinburgh Castle's defences, the Forewall Battery was constructed to strengthen the castle's southern approach against potential attack. It is remembered as an example of early modern military architecture and the ongoing development of Edinburgh Castle as a key stronghold in Scottish history.
