Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Edinburgh Castle, Mons Meg as Cannon (15th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Edinburgh Castle, including the Mons Meg cannon, was held by the Kingdom of Scotland from the 12th century onwards, with the cannon itself cast in 1449 in Flanders and presented to James II. It is important as a symbol of Scottish military history and the castle's role as a royal and military stronghold.
