Earthwork in Oldtown (balrothery West By.) was a possible rath beside the Post Office where fragments of a mortuary vessel once emerged. Locals remembered a low earthwork in Dun Hill before ploughs and development erased its shape. What remains is a ghost of a boundary, marked only by catalogues and the absence of the mound itself.

Listed in the Dublin RMP as an ‘Earthwork Site (Possible)'. The Wakeman Collection Catalogue, No. 30 (NMI) described fragments of a mortuary vessel which came from a Rath at Oldtown. This ’Rath' may have been located in a field known as 'Dun Hill' which was located beside the present Post Office. Locals described a low earthwork in this field which has since been levelled. The precise location of this earthwork site has not been identified but it was located in a field beside the Post Office which is marked on the OSi maps. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien
