Linked to Saint Fillan, an 8th-century Irish monk and healer, the site is associated with traditions of water worship and miraculous cures, particularly for skin ailments and general well-being. Local folklore connects the nearby Hermitage with holy hermits and the well with healing properties, though Ossian's Hall itself is a later 18th-century structure.
