A section of the battered base of a possible tower house (L 9m) is indentifiable at the base of the NW wing of the present Dromoland castle (completed c. 1835) (pers. comm. Built by the O'Brien dynasty, Dromoland Castle's origins date to the 15th century, with the present structure completed in 1835; it is important as a historic seat of the Earls of Inchiquin and a symbol of the enduring legacy of the Dál gCais clan in Irish history.
