In pasture, atop hill. Circular raised area (diam c. 35m) enclosed by earthen bank (H 4.7m), external fosse (D 1.5m). Entrance (Wth c. 6m) to E. Man-made underground passage (CO102-00802) in interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Dromard Fort, Ardgroom Outward is a circular early-medieval ringfort, likely dating to between the 6th and 10th centuries, characterized by a raised central area, enclosing bank, and external ditch. Local tradition associates such sites with the Tuatha Dé Danann, and they are often considered fairy forts, believed to be entrances to the Otherworld in Irish folklore.
