Dovecote in Pollerton Big

Dovecote

What is recorded here

Dovecote in Pollerton Big has vanished beneath the soil, leaving no trace for curious feet to find. Kelly described it in 1972, but the earth has since swallowed the structure whole. The site may have hosted doves, seeds and whispered conversations, yet no evidence preserves those moments. What remains is a hollow where a building stood, waiting for someone to remember the shape of what is gone.
Described by Kelly (1972, 45), now levelled. No evidence to suggest a medieval date for this. Reference: Kelly M. T. 1972 The Burtons of Pollacton in Carloviana (Vol. 21). Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 19 August 2011
