Bolton’s fifteenth-century tower house still stands inside a later double-gabled home, its south side marked by a barrel-vaulted columbarium and pigeon loft. What began as a fortified residence became a working dovecote, suggesting that birds and bread mattered as much as defence. The building crosses centuries without apology, keeping old strength and domestic ease in the same walls.

A fifteenth century tower house (KD038-019001-), rectangular in plan with a square projecting turret at the SE corner. the tower house is now incorporated into an eighteenth century double-gabled house. The columbarium with a barrel vault and a later pigeon loft immediately to the S of the tower house is probably a modified bawn turret. Date of upload: 15 September 2016
