Explorer Tom At Highland Safaris near Aberfeldy, somebody has solved the problem of choosing between a Highland hill, a boat trip and a close look at deer by putting them on the same menu. The visitor centre at Dull is the starting place for land adventures, and I would check which outing I booked before trying to board a boat there. The operator runs guided Land Rover journeys into Perthshire's hills and forests, of different lengths. Its mountain journeys aim for high viewpoints and chances to learn about wildlife from the guide; the forest trips keep the expedition shorter. Wildlife makes no promise to appear for your camera. A ranger explains the landscape even if deer remain out of sight. That is still a proper day outside. There is plenty at the visitor centre too: a red deer and barn owl experience, gold and gem panning, archery, a discovery trail, and a play area. Some activities are paid while the trail and play area are free, so check the current choices rather than assuming one ticket unlocks everything. I might spend half the morning claiming I would pan for gold to fund a castle, then discover I am quite happy with a shiny pebble and a cup of tea. The operator says its visitor centre is at Dull near Aberfeldy, while Loch Tay boat safaris depart from a separate marina near Killin; the two locations are not a short walk apart. Book the chosen activity in advance, confirm its departure point, and plan the return journey if travelling without a car. Get that detail right and the day's real surprise can be the hills, not the wrong postcode.
