Designed landscape

Located in rough-average pasture, tending to be wet and poorly drained. Situated c. 45m NW of Farranmacfarrell House, a possible 17th-century house (SL018-096----). A wooded area is indicated at this location on the 1837 OS 6-inch map. A subcircular hachured enclosure is shown on the 1913 edition. Circular area (diam. 30m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.8-3.4m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.6m ,at W), largely levelled at NE–S, and enclosed at S–NW by a fosse (Wth 3m; ext. D 1m). Outside the fosse at NW there is a remnant of an earthen bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 0.9m), with external stone facing. On the 1913 OS 6-inch map this is shown as part of a field boundary which curved around the enclosure at NW–N.
