What is recorded here

Runs SSE from the designed landscape gardens (KD024-028006-) associated with Harristown castle (KD024-028003-) and a later, 17th century fortified house (KD024-028005-). Shown on an estate map of c. 1645 (Tickell 1958, ff 320) and on Noble and Keenan's 1752 and Taylor’s 1783 maps of County Kildare. A wide single canal for most of its length (Wth c. 35m: L c. 470m NNW-SSE; total L c. 650m), it bifurcates near the NNW end, curving outwards to E and W to enclose a raised circular area (diam. c. 60m), and continues as two parallel canals (Wth 20m; max. D 2.5m) ending at the remains of a large rectangular formal garden (KD024-028006-). The canal floor is damp and reedy, and heavily poached by livestock.
