Dangan Bridge

Six-arch rubble limestone road bridge over river, c.1825. Random rubble limestone walls with coursed squared rubble limestone triangular cut-waters to piers having rubble limestone coping, and coursed (vertical coursed) squared rubble limestone parapets having ivy-clad dressed limestone coping. Series of six segmental arches with cut-limestone voussoirs having keystones, and rubble stone soffits having traces of render over. Sited spanning Black Water River with grass banks to river.

Forming an important element of the early nineteenth-century transport heritage of the locality a well-composed bridge represents an attractive landmark at a crossing over a reasonably wide section of the Black Water River. The construction in barely-refined locally-sourced stone serves to integrate the bridge pleasantly into the surrounding rural landscape while dressings with particular emphasis on the elegantly-appointed arches display high quality stone masonry.
