What is recorded here

Dallan stands one metre forty-five tall in an open pasture, its rectangular body leaning slightly along a north-west to south-east axis. It appeared nowhere on the detailed maps drawn in 1842 or 1905, suggesting the stone resisted human recording long before it joined archaeological inventories. The resistance fits a place that gives up no name, no date and no purpose. It may have marked a boundary, witnessed a burial or simply watched the pasture change hands. In any case, Dallan remains the clearest witness in the area, unchanged while every human arrangement around it disappeared.

Not marked on 1842 and 1905 OS 6-inch maps. In pasture, on gentle NE-facing slope. Stone (H 1.45m; 1m x 0.28m) is rectangular in plan and section, long axis NW-SE.
