Cross-slab in Kilcoole

A granite cross-slab, placed against the chancel arch at the E end of the nave of church (WI013-029001-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Date likely to the early medieval period, possibly 8th to 11th century AD, associated with Christian worship or memorial practice. Such cross-slabs often marked burial sites or served as liturgical monuments in early church settings.
