Cross-slab in Clone

Located at the N edge of a plateau in the valley of a small E-W stream, which is c. 50m to the NE, and c. 40m SE of Clone church (WX013-023001-), with a fold in the land between the location and the church. It was described as being on a mound with the sundial (WX015-023004-) and perhaps other cross-slabs (Ffrench 1895). This is an upright slab (total H c. 1.02m; Wth 0.35m; T 0.26m) with an incised Maltese cross in a circle (diam. 0.29m) on one face. It was first described by Du Noyer (1864-6, 443) in this position when it was facing W, but it was moved to a position (WX015-023012-) in the graveyard (WX015-023002-) during the 1990s. At the moment it is temporarily in storage at the OPW depot in Kilkenny (see KK019-026410-).
