Freestanding wayside cross, erected 1682. Monolithic carved limestone monument comprising cross with chamfered arms set on carved elongated spherical collar with lettering, on octagonal shaft. Set in dressed limestone plinth, with rubble limestone walls to rear and sides. Located at crossroads in Kilconnell Village.

Erected for a number of reasons, wayside crosses are found throughout Europe and the Christian world. This one was probably a memorial cross, as the inscription exhorts the passer-by to pray for John Donnellan, whose family erected it. A remarkably early monument, the carving is still crisp. It was damaged in 1844, and subsequently re-erected by Reverend W. Manning, and inscribed to this effect.
