Cross in Ballyknockan (talbotstown Lower By.)

Situated close to a path in the middle of a field. Granite Latin cross (H c. 1.2m) with a square cross-section, set into a stone with a circular perforation, possibly a millstone fragment. Local tradition suggests that the cross was erected during a plague of cattle and sheep in the area. (Information A. O'Sullivan; O'Reilly 1995) This small stone cross stands beside a holy well (WI010-054002-) which was blessed by Fr. Rowan (Lynch 1994, 643).
