What is recorded here

Half a metre of cross remains in Carlow, no more, set in a low round cairn as if the earth pulled the rest back. What is missing matters more now: a church and graveyard wait a short distance east, and the lost height may have stood between them like a marker for the dead. The small stone does not claim to be grand; it admits the gap and points the memory onward.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Portion of narrow, granite shaft (H 0.55m; Wth 0.30m; T 0.15m) in flat, disc-shaped base standing on small cairn (diam. 2.1m; H 1.1m).
