Drawn by Du Noyer (George Victor Du Noyer, “Calvary cross on road side North of Fore Abbey Td. Of Clonageeragh. Sheet 4/3,” Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, accessed January 27, 2020, http://rsai.locloudhosting.net/items/show/23407) in the 19th century. Described in 1928 as 'Fragments of the head and shaft of a cross with a plain ring or disc 1ft. 6in. (0.45m) in diameter. These pieces are in a field north of a house on the west side of the road, 1 and a half miles N of Fore' (Crawford 1928, 59, no. 8). Recorded in 1980 as 'The cross is in 3 fragments (1) the head (H 0.6m; Wth 0.42m) , (2) part of the shaft (3) the base. The base is a rectangular stone (dims. 0.58m x 0.6m) with a deep socket (dims. 0.31m x 0.19m; D 0.12m) cut in its upper surface. The shaft (H 0.28m; Wth 0.27m; T 0.15m) has a rectangular cross-section with chamfered edges otherwise it is plain. The head is damaged and one arm remains. It has a solid ring and is quite plain, the edges are not chamfered. There is no evidence of an inscription on the cross' (SMR file). A wayside cross (WM003-076----) is 1km to the NNW and a second wayside cross (WM004-010----) is 800m to the SSE. I was only able to locate the head of the cross which now lies in the NW face of a field bank running NE-SW, no evidence of base or shaft of cross which were described in 1980.
