Holdstown’s cremation pit sat just inside a ditched enclosure on high ground, marking a body burned before burial rather than buried whole. The cut matched nearby graves in shape and size, but its fill held burnt bone and frequent charcoal, recording a different final ritual for one person or family. The road works exposed the pit in 2007, pulling that lost choice of fire and release out of the Kilkenny earth.

On high ground in a commanding position. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3681). Just inside the NE portion and truncated by a ditched enclosure (KK024-117001-). A cut, similar in size and shape to the other grave-cuts within the enclosure (KK024-117006-) but with evidence of in situ burning.
