Crannog in Unknown

Crannog

What is recorded here

Crannog in Unknown may have been a small island home hidden among the lakelets between Lough Caheer and Island Lough. It is not certain where it stood, but water and time may have taken it back. If people lived there, they would have known the place by feel, reading the lakes instead of marking them.
This possible crannog is mentioned in NMI Topographical Files 1934 as follows: 'In one of the lakelets on the Glore between Lough Caheer and Island Lough there is what seems to be a crannoge.' (SMR file). The exact location is unknown. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 29 June 2022
