Crannog in Tirnahinch Far

Located in Tirnahinch Lough, a sub-triangular lake (dims c. 220m NW-SE; c. 180m NE-SW at SE). Artefacts recovered by Dr. S. A. D’Arcy from a crannog in this lake in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century are now in Monaghan County Museum. The lake has a wide, swampy foreshore on the E (Wth c. 50m) and SW (Wth c. 100m) sides, where the crannog might be located, but its precise location is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
