Crannog in Killyran is an artificial island in County Cavan, Ireland, where people built homes above water instead of beside it. The lake may have hidden the edges of the settlement, forcing residents to read depth, current and light before they could land a boat or carry food ashore. That much is known. The rest belongs to imagination: fear of drowning children, pride in keeping a household dry, or simple exhaustion from climbing ropes in rain.
