Crannog in Derryna is a small, low island in Lough Oughter, County Cavan, hidden beneath water for centuries until lake levels dropped in the middle decades of the twentieth century. Measuring about twenty metres across and sitting fifty metres from shore, it emerged as a pale disc in the reedbeds, perhaps a dwelling, refuge or marker lost to rising waters. Its sudden visibility suggests human life adapted to the lake’s moods, building or abandoning places as the water commanded.

Not marked on any OS ed. Small, low, subcircular island (diam. c. 20m) in Lough Oughter, c. 50m from the shoreline. The level of the lake was lowered considerably during the middle decades of this century. Hitherto the site was not visible (local information).
