What is recorded here
Crannog in Corfree is a small, high circular stone cairn topped by a single tree, sitting in Lough Gowna beside another crannog and a lakeside rath. It is the kind of place people may have used to mark territory, remember events or keep away from damp shorelife. The water remains the main character, changing the shape of every visit and making the stones feel like a message thrown back from the lake.
Not marked on any OS ed. Located in Lough Gowna. Small, high, circular cairn of small to medium-sized stones surmounted by a tree. A few meters away to N is a second crannóg (CV030-036----) and beyond this on the shore, a lakeside rath (CV030-011----).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
