Carrowmore Lake in County Mayo, Ireland holds a crannog, an artificial island or water-based structure that still belongs to the region’s living landscape. The lake may have served people as a boundary, a garden, a shrine or a hidden neighbourhood, depending on which era is imagined. Water and memory do the rest of the building.
