Corbally Castle rose on a low hill where Mahon and Gilladubh, sons of Sioda MacNamara, first claimed the land. It passed through MacNamara, Butler and O'Brien hands until demolition erased most of its shape by 1839. A subcircular platform still breaks the grass, bisected by a road, preserving the footprint of rooms that once echoed with arguments, feasts and the particular silence of people who believed they would outlast everyone else.

It was built by Mahon and Gilladubh, sons of Sioda MacNamara, and continued in MacNamara hands until Conor MacNamara forfeited his castle and lands in 1641to a Pierce Butler. Later the O'Briens settled in Corbally and Captain Dermot O'Brien, who fought at Fontenoy in 1745, is recorded as residing here. By 1839 the castle was demolished and only traces of its foundations survived (OSL Vol.2, 1839, 240). Situated at the E end of a low hill. Corbally Castle was built by Mahon and Gilladubh, sons of Sioda MacNamara, in the early 17th century and remained in MacNamara possession until 1641, when Conor MacNamara forfeited it to Pierce Butler during the turbulent period of Confederate Ireland. The castle later became associated with the O'Brien family, reflecting shifting land ownership in the region during the 17th century.
