Clogheen Church (in Ruins)

In graveyard (14563). Fragmentary remains of former C of I parish church of Caherduggan. Rectangular church (19.85m E-W; 9.95m N-S), built of random-rubble limestone. All that now stands is NW corner (H 3.2m), with short returns of W (L 4.4m) and N (L 4.1m) walls. South wall survives as line of rubble with some external facing stones. East end occupied by grave plot, dated 1817, enclosed by a low, narrow wall. According to Lewis (1837, vol. 1, 241) built in reign of Charles II (1660-1665), but de-roofed and services discontinued in 1717. Site of earlier church (14408) in graveyard.
