Cloghaun Fort

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Cloghaun Fort is an earthen ringfort in County Kerry, Ireland. Its buried walls and hidden chambers belong to the fairy realm, where human laws dissolve and dream logic takes charge. The fort still breathes beneath the grass, waiting for a lost soul to remember what it swallowed.
The site is described in the OSNB as an earthen fort (Drummod, 25). The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1373. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 1 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
