Clogagh Church (in Ruins)

In NE corner of graveyard (CO123-025001-) ruins of late-medieval parish church (L 12.3m, Wth 6.8m). Walls in poor repair and ivy-clad. No opes in S wall preserved and central projection (c. 4m N-S; 3.4m E-W) reduced to pile of rubble. Central east window has dressed stone light with pointed head and hood moulding. W gable has ruined attic window. Modern door ope near W end N wall. Replaced by new church in adjacent townland in 1793 (Brady 1863, Vol. 2, 517). Local tradition of round tower on site (O'Donoghue 1988, 110); also tradition that this is site of Franciscan friary but this is not likely (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 277).
