Cist in Bawnard

In level pasture, on the summit of a ridge. Rev. W. Ferris (d. 1971) recorded the finding in 1924 of a stone-lined cist containing an urn (WFP). There were no visible reamins of this cist at the time of inspection but the landowner indicated its location and reported that a spread of stones (diam. c. 6m) is visible when the field is ploughed. In the 1940s, the placename 'Ladhar an Cairn' where a 'corpse...surrounded on all sides by slabs of stone' was found beneath a cairn, was recorded here (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry).
