The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Cist containing vase food vessel with cremated bone, discovered during extraction of sand from sandpit in 1912 (JRSAI 1970, 109).

Cist in Ballymurphy is a small prehistoric stone burial chamber, likely dating to the Early Christian or Bronze Age period. Its significance lies in providing insights into early burial practices and funerary architecture in the Carlow region.
