Church (in Ruins)

In NW quadrant of graveyard (9542); ivy-clad ruins of rectangular gabled church (c. 20m E-W; 9.1m N-S), formerly chapel-of-ease for Inishcarra parish (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 239). Doorway W of centre in S wall; door surround has pointed arch; lower part of door was now buried. Central window in E gable, only one side jamb and base of light survive; second ruined window near E end of S wall. Parts of N wall collapsed; upper portion of E wall fallen but W gable stands to near full height though completely mantled by ivy. Many headstones inside church. E end of interior overgrown. Surviving details suggest structure of late-medieval date. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
